BACK TO BASE

To salute the close of this beautiful year is a collection I tag as retro, metallic, solidly textured, chic feminine, and edgy. Balmain's Oliver Rousteing's design have an outstanding and contagious feel about them. He made an exquisite statement with his statement pieces at the Blamain 2013/2014 winter collection. His dresses held the usual edginess and metallic solidity with unique cuts and wraps. The colours pink, red, purple and green stained with metallic grey and black noted the independent yet feminine woman. I-Robot..lol this would be  perfect outfits for the women in top command. The Fall winter 2014-2015 collection has a creative twist of Arabian and Egyptian  rope like materials that sparks up an unusual newness in fashion creativity. The dresses match the African empress and her love for the African heritage. The animal prints and metal embellishments on the dress arrow the targeted feminine empowerment. Blamain sure has a reputation for putting the power back into the hands of the woman. Gorgeous pieces....

FREE THINKERS #1

This is a section I have decided to create, a new forum for fierce fashion expression. Totally unrelated but, a great writer once wrote that ever man has a story to tell and no man other than himself can do justice to the story that lingers within.

I love the mystery of fabrics and the cryptic mist that hangs around the woman of fashion. Guessing who the free thinker is? She is my 'lady in red', the 'Liberian girl' or as Peter Andre would call her 'Mysterious girl'. Its one thing to think fashion and another to be fashion but would it be a tilt in the justice scale of fashion if a 'man' becomes fashion? I got pictures from a generous sister, a well stated free thinker. Interpretation-Christmas...lol

I thought long and hard who the free thinker is and what she would be. But I would rather let this be a blank check, an empty architectural structure to be furnished by the creative mind of the potential occupant.
Free thinker to start, mixing up the traditional and English glam. Who says there is a difference? Let your rhythm inspire you-

“Clothes are like a good meal, a good movie, great pieces of music.” — Michael Kors
"A respectable appearance is sufficient to make people more interested in your soul."-Karl Largefeld

"I like being a woman, even in a man’s world. After all, men can’t wear dresses, but we can wear the pants."
— Whitney Houston
"The most important thing to remember is that you can wear all the greatest clothes and all the greatest shoes, but you’ve got to have a good spirit on the inside. That’s what’s really going to make you look like you’re ready to rock the world."
— Alicia Keys

So, want to express yourself as a fashion free thinker, send in your pictures and I would have them up. Merry Christmas and have a splendid and blessed new year.

UBIQUITOUS..CHANEL

In 1952 it be came a sensation, an innocent black dress designed by one of fashion's greatest icons. Coco Chanel was an exceptional designer who found her self in a society where she was labelled a fashion rebel rising to become the smart sassy priestess of Haute Couture.

Gabrielle Bonheur chanel(1883-1971) adopted the name Coco, a nick name given her by the soldiers who came to watch her sing at cafes and concert halls. She rose to the height of respect in the fashion industry particularly for her rebellion to the corset tradition owing to her creation of loose jerseys for women which were originally worn by men as under garments. The little black dress created a year after the successful launch of her signature cardigan jackets in 1925, became a necessity for all women, more like a ubiquitous fashion.

Her statement jackets and evolutionary dresses remain a yard stick for the creation of the untamed and free woman in the world of fashion. In her words, 'I wanted to give a woman comfortable clothes that would flow with her body...Chanel'

It is a well know truth now that some fashion depictions are characterized by the display of skin and more skin, body con and knee imprisoned dresses. True, the woman would 'glow in the dark' with such body accentuating dresses but where does the integrity of fashion lie in such dresses? Wear a dress not a costume, 'Fashion has become a joke. The designers have forgotten that there are women inside the dresses. Most women dress for men and want to be admired. But they must also be able to move, to get into a car without bursting their seams! Clothes must have a natural shape...Chanel'

In rebelling against the corset to create the liberated woman, Chanel let the music of comfort flow in every hand stitched dress she created. Even her little black dress strolled on the terrain of comfort and wearability, ' look for the woman in the dress,If there is no woman, there is no dress...Chanel'
Karl Largefeld took up the baton of the chanel legacy and ushered the chanel brand into the 21st century, furnishing each dress with the signatory commandments of chanel's perception of the fashionable woman-Classy and Fabulous-

On a final note, ' dress shabbily and they remember
the dress; dress impeccably  and they remember the woman.'...Chanel
